This year I wanted to use an idea I had after watching that atmospheric film 'The Light Between Oceans' with the wonderful actors Alicia Vikander, Rachel Weisz and Michael Fassbender. The story takes place on an island called Janus Rock, Western Australia, where the Indian Ocean meets the Southern Ocean. Its amazing how ideas come to us when we least expect it. Happy 2018.
Another year and another attempt to capture the family spirit of Christmas in sunny Dubai! Hope you like.
Another Christmas Card. It seems to get harder and harder each year to come up with a good idea for the perennial Christmas Card. This year was based on the angelic halo. Hope you like?
A three week photo & video shoot at the Four Seasons Moscow property over looking Red Square and The Kremlin, finishing quite nicely on my birthday. After my first visit 23 years ago, nothing and everything has changed. It was great to be back. The experience of snow and sub-zero temperatures were the greatest novelties after two decades in the Middle East. The staff and people we met in Moscow were on the other hand very warm. A great shoot with great memories. Special thanks to Caroline, Ekaterina & Nikhil pictured below.
Managed to achieve a rare phenomenon this Easter: Combining a family holiday with the photographic needs of the three Fairmont properties in Kenya: Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club; Fairmont The Norfolk Hotel and Fairmont Mara Safari Club.
I can't recommend these three properties enough. The staff were amazing and we had the loveliest hotel food ever.
Every now and then I am reminded of why I love my work. A trip to Seychelles is never to be sniffed at! Of course, the days were long and hard but the environment was simply amazing to work in. Anse Lazio beach - around the corner from Raffles - has come up quite a few times on the list for the top ten most beautiful beaches of the world.
As an aside, there are ten stars in our universe for every grain of sand found on every beach in this amazing planet. Well, fancy that! Special thanks to Mel & Harriet.
Three November days in a warehouse with those lovely people from Harlequin. Thank goodness the weather in Dubai was perfect. Coffee runs to Costa also saved us from going mad. All in all I think we had lots of fun and it was a smooth shoot. My thanks goes to Elaine and Janet and the team from Harlequin for all their hard work. Good luck with the marketing of your new event set-ups.
Received this lovely email this morning from Rene Beauchamp - the General Manager of Four Seasons Hotel in Prague. See http://vimeo.com/108635616 for the full video.
Dear Caroline and Paul,
I just wanted to send a quick note to thank you for the extraordinary video you both produced for us !!!
I just presented it to an employee event and the response was met with such enthusiasm and tremendous pride. Right from the start, you captured the essence of Prague and made the Hotel blend in with elegance and style. Despite being only two minutes, the video is filled with stunning images and emotions.
Without even being aware of it, you have given every single employee of our Hotel, a dose of pride for their city and for the hotel they are so dedicated to and for this, we are very grateful.

Oh! Almost forgot to mention that we have just released a brand new-look website with loads of up-to-date photographs and videos - along with some golden oldies. Of course you wouldn't be reading this if you didn't know already! We are always happy to hear any feedback on the new website as improvements can always be made in how Paul Thuysbaert Photography comes across in the amazing world of social media.
At last the office has a new fit-out (carried out in the month of October) complete with 4 work stations. We will be advertising for a new retoucher later on this year - for when 'ptphotography' really gets busy! This will hopefully take the pressure off Deng (seen here on the left) who does most of the retouching at the moment.
Jackie Boston, the new PA has been with us for a month now and is a wonderful new addition to the team with a fantastic and much needed sense of humour. All work enquiries can be directed to Jackie via our main email firstname.lastname@example.org
Melanie Cosgrave, a stylist based here in Dubai has been working with us for nearly four years now and is a very valued member of the team. Along with styling Mel co-producers and co-art directs most of the photography and videos with me. Her delightful website can be found at www.melanie-cosgrave-stylist.squarespace.com
Sam is a freelancer has acted as an assistant on some exotic shoots recently and is really, really good with Adobe Premier Video editing software. He worked on the 'Mission Impossible - Ghost Protocol' film when it was being shot in Dubai, so he must be good! For a taster of that film go to http://vimeo.com/37364484
Last, but not least, there's Caroline Davidson who is based in London and has a wealth of experience in her field. She styles, produces and art directs the photography and videography for most of the Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts worldwide. Go to www.carolinedavidson.co.uk for a visual treat.
What better way than to start this blog then with a picture that represents all that I love about working in the world of hotel photography. You get to see some great places, live like a King and be pampered by the most wonderful staff.
With long, long days its not all glamour and afternoon teas. Hotels want the best images you can produce and the more the merrier. However, there is never a dull moment. I can be photographing a bedroom one moment, then a herd of elephants the next. Cuisine in the morning, and models for lifestyle images in the afternoon.
I love being a photographer, but I love being a photographer specialising in hotels and resorts even more.
